- Shortlist of 12 agents selected and maintained by [@rkuovc](https://x.com/rkuovc); see the live site for the current list.
- Ranked by GitHub stargazer count for each repository (owner/name shown per entry).
- Counts were verified against the GitHub repository API on October 3, 2026; the live directory refreshes counts every 30 minutes and falls back to the dated snapshot when GitHub is unreachable.
- Rank movement is measured against the previous baseline of July 31, 2026.
- Category (assistants, coding, browser, research, automation) is a browsing aid; several agents span multiple categories.
- Stars measure popularity, not quality, license terms, or capability. Check each repository's license before use.
